Q: Why do I need a government-issued ID to get a certificate?
A: EdX requires that anyone trying to earn a certificate on its platform must present a government-issued ID to prevent cheating. The ID must be of the examinee and not from a parent, relative, guardian or school official. Verification is done by a third-party and is included in the price of the exam. We understand that it may be difficult for some middle-schoolers to obtain a picture ID, but we cannot allow exceptions and apologize for any inconvenience!
